Máté Szücs, Violin

In 1978 Máté Szücs was born in Hungary into a musical family: his father being a composer, conductor and university professor; his mother an opera singer and also a professor at the university.

Máté Szücs started his musical career at the age of five playing the violin. In his teens he won prizes as a chamber musician as well as a violinist.

During the 1990s he lived in Brussels, where he changed from the violin to the viola winning more prizes, e.g. in 1998 as a finalist in the "Jean Francaix Competition" in Paris, and he was named a laureate in the international "Tenuto Competition" in Brussels.

At the beginning of the millennium Máté Szücs performed with the "Con Spirito" piano quartet in Belgium for two years. Worked as a solo player with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, as solo violist with the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Staatskapelle Dresden in Germany, Solo viola player in the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra. He has a very active career as soloist - he recently played Mozart´s Sinfonia Concertante with Frank Peter Zimmermann - and chamber musician as well.

Máté Szücs was solo violist with the Berlinhvor from 2011 until 2018, when he started as professor at Haute école de musique de Genève..
