Tony Nys, Brussels, violin
In 1975 Tony Nys was born in Belgium. He studied violin and viola at the Royal Flamish Music Conservatory in Brussels with Clemens Quatacker and Phillipe Hirschhorn. He also had lessons with S. Gawriloff and C.A. Linale. From 1994 till 1997 he played first violin with the Fétis String Quartet. He was also a member of the World Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth and Chamber Orchestra.
In 1998 Tony Nys started as viola player in the Danel String Quartett, with whom he has given concerts worldwide. The quartet has worked with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Wolfgang Rihm and Pascal Dusapin. Together with the quartet Tony Nys has given lectures at the University Witten-Herdecke in Germany and Conservatoire Nationale Supérieure in Lyon. In 2005 Tony left the Danel String Quartett and started working free-lance with ensembles such as Explorations, Ensemble Modern, Triofenix, TetraLyre and the Malibran Quartett. Further he has performed as solo viola player with the Radio Orchestra Frankfurt. Since 2007 he is employed as solo viola player at the opera house La Monnaie in Brussels and at the same time he works as viola teacher at the Royal Music Conservatory there.
